We're a specialist recruitment consultancy in the East of England, built around a single principle: consultants who specialise in your sector and stay in it long enough to know it properly. We've been doing it that way for more than twenty years.
Our story
The ONE Group started in Peterborough in 2004 with a simple idea: that recruitment is a people business. The first office opened on Lynch Wood that year with a small team. By the end of the same year, a second office had launched in Cambridge to cover the Cambridgeshire technology scene. Two more followed over the next two decades, Northampton in 2015 and Hertfordshire & Essex in 2023.
Our Peterborough team has grown from six people to more than twenty, the Cambridge office is home to over twenty consultants, and across the four locations we’re now more than fifty specialists working across technology, engineering and manufacturing, scientific, sales, marketing, and the senior end of all of them. We’ve stayed in this region because we know it, because the businesses here are some of the most interesting in the country, and because being close to the markets we recruit in is part of the point.
Our approach
Recruitment is full of agencies that do everything for everyone. We’re not one of them. Every consultant in the business is a specialist in their sector, and they stay in it. The result is the kind of depth you can’t get from a generalist: deeper networks, sharper market knowledge, and a quicker, more accurate read on every brief.
That depth is paired with the harder-to-measure things. We’ll tell you when a salary won’t stretch for the brief you’ve written, when the market’s tightening against you, or when a candidate you’ve taken to isn’t the right hire even though they’d be the easy one. Most of our work is repeat business from clients and candidates who’ve come back to us because we did right by them the first time.
We meet our people. We can’t promise to meet every single candidate, but we meet a lot of them, and we meet our clients too. That’s how we judge fit beyond what’s on a job description, and it’s why we’re confident putting the people we put in front of you.
Awards and recognition
In 2023 we were named Business of the Year in Northamptonshire, and Employer of the Year in both Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire at the regional SME Business Awards. Three counties, three judging panels, one good year. Recognition across the region mattered more to us than the trophies themselves – it told us that what we’re doing on the ground is being noticed by people who know the local markets and the local employers. Those awards came on the back of twenty years of the same work, and we’d like to think the next twenty will earn us a few more.
